Dough Bait for Saltwater Paypond Fishing

Hi Guys! Sorry I haven't been updating my blog for some time. I have been quite busy lately with work and family. Got things sorted out and now I'm back to writing again.

Recently while I was cleaning up the fridge, I discovered that I had been keeping some left over saltwater fishing dead baits in the fridge for some months. There were some cockles, kembung (Mackerel) & even bulus2 (Whitings). So I decided to try making a dough bait out of all this dead meat that has been occupying my freezer for some time. I was thinking, maybe, just maybe, those fishes at Jugra saltwater ponds may just like this stuff. Well, no harm trying right? So this was what I did.

TAKE NOTE: The following text is accompanied by some gruesome photos not for the faint hearted!

The first order of preparation is to remove all shells, fillet the kembung & bulus2. I even remove the skin as I only wanted the meat & guts. Having read on some blogs that garlic is a strong flavoring to attract fish, so I also toss in some chopped garlic into the mix.

Next comes the part where I tossed everything into the blender to mix them up nicely into a slurry paste. I added in some cooking salt too to give it extra flavoring. Yum Yum!

Now, with the pure creamy fishy smelly paste all blended nicely but still not ready for use yet as it is too soft & slurry. Time to add some flour to make it sticky so that it can hold in shape. I did this slowly by adding moderate amounts of flour & then mixing it well with the fish paste. I repeated this process till the dough is able to hold in shape.

Keep kneading and shaping the dough until it becomes hardened, form it into a ball for easy handling. Now the fish dough bait is ready for fishing.

Before I send this ball of pure meaty fish ball to Jugra, I did some testing at my fish tank to see if the Tilapia and catfish likes it. Well, the results was quite encouraging as the moment I toss a few small chunks into the tank, the fishes were all over it. I feeling very confident now!

Now the question is, did I managed to catch fish with this crazy idea? I did! Here is a small siakap (Barramundi) that took the bait after trying out a few rigs & finally, it was the Apollo rig (Paternoster rig) that did the trick. It wasn't a big fish but I'm contented. The idea actually worked!
