Live A Live: Mechanical Heart (Extras)
Here I'm going to cover the Captain Square side-game from the Mechanical Heart chapter. Note that after you get the Memory Card from Kirk's room at a certain point, you can use it on the game. Normally if you lose a round you'd have to start all over again.
Mercury
Simple enemies, just take them out with Plasma Ball or Spinning Star. They can still hurt you pretty decently though, so use Plasma Charge to heal if you need it.
Venus
Your best bet with these nuisances is Plasma Shot because it is quick and strong. They can cancel your charge attacks and they will do it, constantly. Take them out as quickly as possible.
Earth
Now is where things start to get a bit tricky. You have to get one of the water elementals to use its aqua flare attack while the fire elemental is nearby, and then just waste time until the fire is killed by the water tiles. If you kill all of the water elements the fire will move over to you and use an attack that will instantly turn you to stone, making you lose.
Mars
Here you just have to worry about the blue one - if you defeat it all the others will instantly die. All these monsters will constantly heal each other, but if you keep using Quark Sword they will have a hard time keeping up. It's not as tedious as it sounds, as when the blue one heals the others it damages itself in return, and what's more when the other creatures heal it they will inflict a pile of status ailments on it.
Jupiter
These guys are extremely irritating. They spam the move Pulsar Walk which creates two full horizontal rows of electric tiles that will heal them. Your best bet is to try to keep ahead of them by constantly using Supernova and healing. It is going to be a long and tedious fight no matter what, though.
Saturn
You do not want to be standing diagonally from these enemies. Move down to the bottom of the screen and toss out Plasma Balls. Two or at most three will take care of each one in turn. They have a move called Silicon Resin which will take off about 65 hp, but their other attack will take off around 166. As usual, heal with Plasma Charge if necessary.
Uranus
Another battle that can get quite annoying. They will use an attack called Shock Massage which won't actually hurt you but will flood the area with electricity tiles. They will also multiply and move around. The one you need to destroy is the Electric Mirage, and once you do the others will break down. Just move to the square right below it right off the bat and keep using spinning star/tachyon sword, and maybe Supernova once in a while if you lose sight of it. It doesn't have all that much hp.
Neptune
The one not highlighted is a La La, as usual attack the odd one out and the rest will break down. I used Space Phage on it twice and that did the trick.
Pluto
This is pretty terrible. Some of these enemies will heal on electric tiles (yellow with white spots and white with pink spots) while the others will heal on fire tiles. Like the earlier versions they will constantly be canceling your attacks. Some of them can take off 100 hp per hit, the rest are around 40/50. The most effective attack is Plasma Ball which is rather unfortunate, because standing diagonal is when you are the easiest target for their canceling attacks. However standing right next to them also doesn't work because some of them are capable of exploding which will kill you instantly. So you're just going to have to chip away at them from a distance as best you can. I found the best place to stand is in the corners. When they start to crowd in on you just try to move to somewhere less crowded. As you heal yourself with Plasma Charge your stats will also get boosted so you should be able to move around quick enough to get to safety and get yourself together.
Once you've wiped them all out, you will be done with this game! You are rewarded with a bogus credit reel and absolutely nothing else. Yep. Well done, though.
