Fly Fishing Film Tour to visit Annville

Fly Fishing Film Tour to visit Annville
By Tyler Frantz

Annville’s Quittapahilla Creek has long been a popular destination for local fly anglers, especially along Quittie Park’s recently restored Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures Only area, where trout rise to dry flies in slack pools and chase drifted nymphs through the riffles.

This fall, it’ll be a nearby theater, not the stream, reeling in anglers for a thrilling fly fishing experience, when the Allen Theatre, in association with Doc Fritchey Chapter of Trout Unlimited, presents the “Fly Fishing Film Tour” on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at 1:30pm.

Typically shown at large venues and fly fishing shows, this unique tour features an assortment of films- all of which capture the pure excitement of fly fishing in its various forms. According to the Fly Fishing Film Tour (F3T) website, the tour is the original and preeminent exhibition of fly fishing cinema.

“The F3T is a one of a kind experience. Each year fishy folk of all ages gather at premieres to soak up films from around the world, spin a few yarns amongst friends and dream about casts still unmade,” the website explains.

“2016 marks The F3T’s 10th lap around North America and this year’s lineup of films is, without question, the best the Tour has ever presented. From Bolivia to the Seychelles, British Columbia and Patagonia, from Saskatchewan to Zambia and Virginia to Montana, the notable characters, unique storylines and unparalleled fishing in these films will lead you on an adventure around the globe!”

In addition to showcasing world-class fly fishing films, the F3T is dedicated to supporting the local fly shops and conservation groups that form the backbone of the sport’s educational and environmental efforts. A portion of ticket sales goes directly to support fishing and habitat-related conservation groups, having raised over $300,000 last year for conservation partnerships.

“If you have ever dreamed of fly fishing in adventurous or exotic places, these films are for you,” said Russ Collins, Chapter President of Doc Fritchey Trout Unlimited. “We are so excited for the opportunity to bring this to the area and make it accessible to our 480 local chapter members.”

“I’m really looking forward to catching up with our members and anyone else interested in the sport of fly fishing. All are welcome. It’ll be a great opportunity to enjoy a good show and let others know what we’re all about,” Collins said.

The Doc Fritchey Chapter of Trout Unlimited is a grassroots volunteer organization dedicated to conserving, protecting and restoring North America’s trout fisheries and their watersheds, with an emphasis on Dauphin and Lebanon counties.

Proceeds from Annville’s F3T ticket sales will help Doc Fritchey TU continue its valuable conservation work in the area, including Quittapahilla Creek, which flows within walking distance of where the event will be held.

“Allen Theatre owner Skip Hicks has graciously donated his theater facilities for this event, enabling our chapter to bring this film to our area,” Collins explained. “The attached MJ’s Coffeehouse also offers a wide variety of sandwiches, desserts and drinks for enjoyment, as well as BYOB; so if patrons would like to show up early and have lunch before the show, that is available too.”

The F3T has become the entertainment event of the year for America’s diverse fly fishing community, having screened in over 160 North American cities last year alone.

“It is a huge honor to have this film shown locally,” said DFTU Vice-President, Stephan Vegoe. “Having seen the trailers on the F3T website (www.flyfilmtour.com), I knew immediately I had to attend the show and bring my grandson along to see it.”

Plans for ticket sales are currently still being arranged, but they will be available in coming weeks at several locations, in addition to the box office of the theater. More information will be posted on the Doc Fritchey TU website (www.dftu.org) as it becomes available.

The Allen Theatre and MJ’s Coffeehouse (www.allentheater.com) is located at 36 East Main Street, Annville, PA 17003. For questions about the Fly Fishing Film Tour’s Annville screening, contact DFTU Chapter President Russ Collins via email at rwarrencollins@gmail.com or by telephone at 717-580-3958.

Tight lines, all ye fly fishing fanatics… I hope to see you at the movies!
