Penn-Anthracite Mining Society Awards John Kaminski Memorial Student Scholarships
Three Pennsylvania mining and geology students were recently awarded 2016-2017 John Kaminski Memorial Scholarships by the Penn-Anthracite Section of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration.
John Ackerman (left in photo) 2016-2017 Section Chair and John Mack, right, 2015-2016 Section Chair, presented scholarship awards to Alana O'Rourke, Peter Dubravski, and Audrey Dunhamat the Section’s Annual Meeting at the Mountain View Golf Course in Barnesville, Schuylkill County.
Alana, from Lewisburg PA, is a rising senior in environmental geosciences at Bloomsburg University; Peter, from Albrightsville, is a Marian High School (Tamaqua) graduate who will be studying geology at Dickinson College; and Audrey, from Ithaca, New York will be a senior in geosciences at the Pennsylvania State University.
The scholarships are named in memory of John Kaminski, former president of Kaminski Brothers Coal and Coolbaugh Sand and Gravel, Pittston, who was the 1980-1981 Section Chair.
The Kaminski family and the Penn-Anthracite Section “Anthracite Engineers Give Back” endow annual scholarships for Pennsylvania students in Pennsylvania school studying mining engineering, mineral processing, mineral economics, geosciences, environmental resources management, and earth and environmental sciences.
