Lacawac Sanctuary Jan. 21 Fire and Ice Cocktail Event & Art Exhibit Supports Environmental Ed
The Lacawac Sanctuary and Field Station will host the 2nd annual Fire and Ice Event on January 21 in support of environmental and science outreach K-12 school programs in Lackawanna, Luzerne, Pike, Susquehanna, Wayne and Wyoming Counties.
Join Lacawac Sanctuary at The Colonnade, Jefferson Avenue in Scranton from 6 to 8 p.m. This event is guaranteed to brighten up your winter.
Sponsored by NBT Bank, Scartelli Olszewski PC Attorneys at Law, Olsommer-Clarke Insurance Group, and Graham Public Relations and Advertising, Fire and Ice Event is a fundraiser to support Lacawac Sanctuary and Field Station, a nonprofit organization that offers a diverse set of natural areas, facilities, and outreach programs for K-12 and post-secondary educators and students, area residents, scientific researchers, and summer visitors to the region.
The event is open to the public and is a 21+ event. The Colonnade will provide heavy hors d’oeuvres; a cash bar will be available. Attire is completely your choice but weather appropriate. That means, if you want to wear your cute party dress or cool new shirt - fantastic.
But if it’s cold and blizzard-y out and you can't imagine wearing anything but flannel-lined jeans and a big sweater, that's fine with us!
Fire and Ice will feature a special exhibit entitled Immersion by Heidi Van Leuven. Heidi is an NEPA-based artist and recent Lacawac artist-in-residence who draws much inspiration from nature and its intertwining microcosms.
After receiving her BFA in Painting with a Minor in Art History from Marywood University in 2005, she interned as a studio assistant with Brooklyn-based sculptor Dennis Oppenheim.
She later attended Georgia Southern University and completed her MFA in Painting in 2009. Currently, Heidi teaches painting classes while working on a variety of art and music projects in the Scranton area.
Tickets are $25. Come share the warmth and support Lacawac’s education programs! Tickets can be purchased through Brown Paper Tickets online.
