Former DEP Secretary Abruzzo Named PA American Water Environmental Compliance Chief
PA American Water Tuesday announced the appointment of E. Christopher “Chris” Abruzzo as senior director of Water Quality and Environmental Compliance.
In this role, Abruzzo will oversee environmental policies and practices, as well as direct the company’s team of water quality experts to ensure compliance with all federal and state water and wastewater regulations.
Prior to joining the company, Abruzzo was senior vice president and general counsel for Microbac Laboratories in Pittsburgh.
In addition, he was secretary for the Department of Environmental Protection, the agency that regulates environmental programs including air, water, oil and gas development, solid waste, coal and noncoal mining, deep coal mine safety, site remediation, brownfields and energy programs.
He was also deputy chief of staff for the governor of Pennsylvania with oversight responsibility for public safety agencies, the Department of Environmental Protection and the Public Utility Commission.
A resident of Derry Township, Abruzzo also served on the township’s Board of Supervisors as a board member and chairman. He is a graduate of St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, and earned his law degree from Widener University School of Law in Harrisburg, Pa.
