Help Celebrate America Recycles Day Nov. 15
America Recycles Day is held every year on November 15 to celebrate the contributions recycling makes to protecting our environment and to help raise awareness about the value of reducing, reusing and recycling – every day – throughout the year.
America Recycles Day helps to educate people about the importance of recycling to our economy and environmental well-being and helps to motivate occasional recyclers to become everyday recyclers.
Resources designed to help organize events, such as best practices guides for hosting events, activity ideas, downloadable posters and banners, media outreach tools and sample proclamations are available at the America Recycles Day website.
You can also take the pledge to recycle more: Learn. I will find out what materials are collected for recycling in my community. Act. Reduce my personal waste by recycling. Within the next month, I will recycle more. Share. In the next month, I will encourage one family member or one friend to take the pledge.
Pennsylvania has had a Municipal Waste Recycling Program since 1988 and today over 11.6 million people in the Commonwealth have access to recycling programs with 1,050 curbside recycling programs and 870 drop-off programs.
Pennsylvanians recycle over 8.5 million tons of what would otherwise be waste every year.
Recycling not only collects useful materials that can be made into other products and saves energy, it’s also now big business in Pennsylvania.
On November 17 PA Waste Industries Association and the PA Recycling Markets Center will host the 2015 PA Recycling Industries Congress in the Capitol Building in Harrisburg to showcase the economic contributions recycling makes to Pennsylvania.
