Soft Plastic Rigging - Spoon Trailer

THE SPOON

One of my favorite lures for fishing in shallow clear waters. The wobbling action of a spoon followed by the wriggling action of an SP at the rear creates plenty of vibrations couple with flashes generated by the metal spoon will either make fish angry or hungry, both of which will cause a strike.

Rigging:
Just take any spoon and replace the treble hooks with a worm hook then rig up an SP of any design.

Techniques:

Bottom Hopping
Use this technique when fishing in mid depth waters between 5 to 10ft deep. Cast to water, the spoon and SP will do their action while sinking down to the bottom. Wait for a few seconds then do a jerk to pull it up to the surface quickly then reel in a few turns, pause and let it sink to the bottom again, wait for a few seconds then jerk it to bring it back up to the surface. Repeat this by varying the time between pause and drop. This is called hopping which would trigger bottom feeding ambush predators to rise up to take a bite.

Subsurface Trolling
Use this technique when fishing in shallow waters between 2 to 5ft deep. Cast and immediately reel it back at low to medium speed. Both the spoon will wobble and the SP will wriggle. Keep it just below water surface. This technique is best used for scanning weedy patches by trolling the lure just outside a patch of floating vegetation. It may also trigger a strike from active predators that are out in open waters hunting for a meal.
