Just went to visit Fisher Tackles at Shah Alam, Sek 15. Saw them stocking 2 designs of Zman SPs (soft plastic) baits. The 5" GrubZ & the 5" SwimmerZ. Altough personally I am not accustomed to fish with such large SPs because frankly, our fishes aren't that big anyway, but no harm trying right? I know Haruans & Tomans would hit lures as large as 1/2 their size if they really want to. Some of the boys on Facebook Group:
SOFT PLASTIC MANIAC have been hooking up Haruans & Tomans with their Zman SPs. The Zman brand originates from Australia and is rapidly gaining popularity worldwide for it's build quality.

5" GrubZ, comes in a pack of 8. |
First impression is, the quality of this SP is excellent. It is so elastic, stretchable yet still durable. It is definitely a notch better than most of the brands available in the local tackle stores. See the photo below how stretchable it is! This is the result of their
ElaZtech material.

Stretching the tail, most other SPs would have started tearing. |
|
Stretching the body, you can't do this with other brands. |
When I first got my hands into the SP, first thing that comes to mind is, there is no plastic smell, no oily feel to it. That is because this is just pure plastic, no scent or attractant unlike Berkley's Powerbait/Gulp as well as Rapala's Trigger X which comes with some form of scent/pheromones coating. Zman's SPs is just bait, which in my opinion could do better if they added some attractant to it.

Done rigging, had to dig up my box to find the largest worm hook. |
Although I am unable to measure the weight of the SP, it should be around 3 to 5g which is about the right amount of weight for casting without the need to add a sinker. This is the most finesse form of SP fishing without using sinker. Cast, hit water, let it wobble with the curly tail dancing in action down all the way to the bottom then followed by pause of about 2 to 5 seconds after which you give it a slow retrieve with intermittant pause or jerking. According to Zman's website, the ElaZtech material also slightly buoyant so I presume it would further add more action to the curly tail with the slightly of movement.
I am looking forward to catching fish with this SP.
