Legislation Alert: Tax and Spend Continues
Still in committee, the August 2013 HR 3018: Gun Violence Prevention and Safe Communities Act of 2013 intends to:
To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to increase the excise tax and special occupational tax in respect of firearms and to increase the transfer tax on any other weapon, and for other purposes.
If they cannot legislate away firearm bans, the sociocrats will tax it, like tobacco products, in order to prevent anyone from being able to afford purchasing certain products - those government officials believe citizens should not have or use. Like SUV, soft drinks, snack foods or whatever they decide next.
The bill was sponsored by Rep. Danny Davis, D-IL and co-sponsored by Bill Pascrell [D-NJ] – both from states that are against the Second Amendment. The bill proposes to increase tax on ammunition from 11% to 50% and double tax on firearms to 20%, especially handguns, cosponsor Pascrell, a tax and spend Democrat complains that -
...the tax rate on ammunition and firearms has remained the same since 1941. Now we got to make priorities here.
He is right – Congress needs to actually begin to budget money provided by taxpayers so they do not fall short and require to raise taxes; in fact, it would boost the economy if taxes were reduced across the board. Spend less, tax less.
It appears that Democrats believe or want to make We the Peoplebelieve that by raising taxes to astronomical proportions it will reduce gun violence. No, it is so they can spend on unrelated expenses like they spent away the social security “trust” fund over the years with the help of their counterparts in the GOP.
The bill's text includes:
To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to increase the excise tax and special occupational tax in respect of firearms and to increase the transfer tax on any other weapon, and for other purposes.
It includes a 20% tax on lower frame or receiver for a firearm for pistol, rifle, or shotgun.
Just as Obamacare, government officials and its employees are exempt:
No firearms, pistols, revolvers, lower frame or receiver for a firearm, shells, and cartridges purchased with funds appropriated for any department, agency, or instrumentality of the United States shall be subject to any tax imposed on the sale or transfer of such articles.
Thirty-five percent of taxes collected are to go to law enforcement for training, hiring and protection costs. Thirty-five percent of the proposed tax shall be available for the Project Safe Neighborhoods[Public Law 110-5] and -
10 percent of such amounts shall be available for the Centers for Disease Control National Center for Injury Prevention and Control for purposes of research on gun violence and its prevention.
That study has been going on for decades with no real results other than thinking up ways to take firearms away from citizens. The Second Amendment has decreased crime by allowing citizens to rightfully arm and defend. Increasing funding to law enforcement agencies will not ensure that the police will arrive before you or your family or your neighbor is killed by a violent criminal(s).
Five percent to the National Criminal History Improvement Programand 5% will go to the NICS Act Record Improvement program authorized by section 301 of the NICS Improvement Amendments Act of 2007.
Lastly, 5% will go to the Secretary of Education and Community-Based Violence Prevention Field-Initiated Research and Evaluation Programof the Department of Justice – the same department that initiated Fast-N-Furiousscandal.
Big government requires vast bureaucracy, which in turn continually increases in cost. In addition, the federal government freely sends funds to other nations, even to those who are enemies of all free nations, especially the United States. So what is big government politicians answer to all this spending – tax and more tax.
If you think they are just picking on firearm owners, think again. Recently it has been proposed by yet another sociocrat to impose a pay-per-mile tax. Their excuse? To push for more fuel efficient transportation.
The Highway “Trust” Fund is financed through transportation-related excise taxes, the main tax being the federal gasoline tax, and in turn, states and counties also add their share of taxes, which presently amounts to about 48 cents [more or less depending upon state and county taxes] of the price per gallon you pay at the pump. A 2012 report by the Congressional Budget Officeshowed that at the present spend and tax levels, the Highway Trust Fund will be $147 billion in the hole by 2022.
If in 2014, American voters start getting rid of tax and spend politicians and promoters of draconian laws and bureaucracy complimenting big government, and vote for earnest individuals that do not just profess to abide by constitutional law – but intend to abide by their oaths of office and duty to the citizens of the United States – not foreign nations.
As thought we do not have enough government spying upon citizens, the mileage tax will require GPS monitoring using satellite technology and cellular transponders that will increase the cost because of required implementation and maintenance of such federally required equipment. The wireless transponder is intended to be installed in EVERY vehicle in order to determine tax collection amounts and fees will be required to be adjusted for drivers operating electric vehicles that do not require to visit gas stations. What was that about encouragement to use alternate energy. This tax will not care what you drive – all will be taxed accordingly.
If politicians worked as hard to abide by and protect constitutional law as they do devising new and sneaky ways to tax and control the people; this would indeed be a great nation and once again a nation to be envied.
Contact your representative and senator and tell them that you have had enough of big government – and in 2014 make your voice heard. Ignore the media, for the most part, and as the old knight said in one of the Indiana Jones films:
Meanwhile Obama continues to deny scandals and out-of-control federal agencies.Choose wisely.
