Carthew Bay Jumbo Perch

Frustrating weekend out on the water- rain Saturday, wind Sunday.  Originally, I was planning on going to the narrows or somewhere on Couchiching to try and find some largemouth, but the weather and other technical difficulties forced me to stay around the Carthew Bay area.

On Saturday, I fished solo out of my canoe, which is always fun when it's windy.  I was doing what I normally do when I'm fishing on my own out of my canoe, especially when it's windy- covering water by throwing a crankbait.  I was hoping to hook into some smallmouth but didn't have any luck.  My consolation prize was a decent sized perch caught on a Chameleon Chartreuse Sashimi Shad Suspending lure which I received in my March Mystery Tackle Box.
The next day my dad and I finally got our boat out for the first time in years.  Unfortunately, it was even windier on Sunday.  Again, very little luck with the smallmouth- I only got one tiny one throwing a Crawdad coloured Shad Rap.  I also tried dragging a tube for a bit of time but to no avail.  Like Saturday, the only consolation was a nice sized perch my dad caught on an old plastic worm.  Both perch were caught on the eastern side of the bay in about 15 feet of water in the weeds.  We didn't spend much time on the water because the wind and the waves made it impossible to have any kind of meaningful boat control.
Stay tuned, later this week I'll be posting about finding smallmouth in the summer, which, after this weekend, is really on point.
