Floating Rigs for Big Game Paypond Fishing

Here are some popular rigs used at Malaysian payponds to target Patin, Giant Mekong & even Bighead Carps. Since the fishes are farm raised fishes, using soaked pellets is most natural to them. You may want to add some additional fruity flavouring such as strawberry, pandan or sweet corn for that extra scent attracting power.

Floating Rig - A
This rig is effective during the day. It simulates feeding time of pellets to farmed raised fishes. The pellets bundled up on the coil will drop out in small quantities attracting fish attention & eventually taking a bite at the clump of pellet (the hook).

The sliding sinker is required to anchor the rig so it doesn't float around too much as even at payponds, there are undercurrents that would push the rig to move.

Skewer the soaked pellets directly onto the hook like satay. Cover the entire hook with pellets.

Floating Rig - B
The second rigging method is similar but instead of a separate leader to a hook, the hooks are link to the coil itself. This method in theory would be more effective at night when there is low visibility & fish switch over to  their sense of smell & taste. The pellets however also needs to be flavoured to add additional scent to attract fish. This rigging method is more suitable when fish are mostly feeding near the bottom.

Floating Rig - C
A variation of floating rig A but using two hook leaders instead of one. It shares the same principle design as floating rig A in that the pellets compressed onto the coil will slowly drop out, enticing fish to investigate & eventually take a bite at the hooks baited with soaked pellets. I'm not too fond of this rig unless the pond is sparsely occupied as the second hook, although would increase our chances, but would give a higher chance of snagging.

Try it. It works for me.
